Decorating Floral Easter Eggs with Natural Materials

I always look forward to spring and Easter is one of my favorite holidays. I like the feel of crisp and frosty mornings that turn into warm and sunny days. It’s a time of daffodils, tulips and hyacinth bursting into bloom and excited children hunting colorful Easter eggs. As florists, many of us enjoy wandering through the woods collecting textural materials to make seasonal designs for our own homes. Mosses. Branches. Plant material. Flowers. With Natural Materials being the latest trend, each season has treasures to share. The Easter season is upon us and it's a great time to gather natural materials and experiment with decorating floral Easter eggs.

Here’s how to decorate floral Easter eggs

Form a floral foam egg

For the base mechanic, soak a block of OASIS Floral Foam in water to hydrate it. Cut the block into four pieces. Draw an egg shape onto the foam and then cut the form out. Trim the edges at an angle to get more of an oval shape. Press the foam with your hands and mold it into a smooth egg shape. The rough spots can be rubbed away with your fingers.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Cover the foam with basing material

Lamb’s ear was used to cover the foam of this egg. I covered the other eggs with green, mood or reindeer moss. A coat of OASIS® Floral Adhesive applied over each egg and on the back of the decorative materials holds them in place.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Add texture with plant material

Glue plant material on top of the basing material to add texture to the design. Encircle an egg with delicate vine. Layer materials to add depth to a design. Mix natural blue-greens and yellow-greens to create visual interest. Add sparkle with OASIS BroochesLomey™ Diamante Pins or OASIS Metallic Wire!OASIS Decorative Wire.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Add your flourishes and style

Infuse color with foliage or flowers

Layers of winter kale provide delicate color to this egg. Small blossoms of hyacinth and periwinkle help to enrich the soft blue-green and purple color harmony.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Attractive with and without flowers

This sedum egg is attractive both with and without flowers. The addition of a little bling makes it more eye-catching.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

 Include decorative accents

Use the favorite brooch of a loved to honor them. Highlight the color of the flowers by using complementary colors of OASIS Decorative Wire.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

More on decorative floral accents

Like the look of ribbon? Wrap an egg with rows of overlapped ribbon in different colors or varied shades of one color. Cover an egg in a mass of tiny bows. French braid OASIS Raw Muslin ribbon over a moss-covered egg. Add a flower for accent. Love your button collection? Cover an egg in buttons and accessorize it with OASIS Button Wire or other strung wire. Celebrating Easter at the beach? Decorate your eggs with small seashells. Or roll the egg in glue, then cover in sand and decorate with a small cluster of shells. After your Easter egg is completely finished, spray FLORALOCK Plus Stem Adhesive into the foam to hold the delicate materials in place. Be sure to wait until after the glue has hardened in the foam to add any accent items you want to remove later.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
