Red, White & Bloom for the 4th of July

The Fourth of July will be a great time for family and friends to get together for outside gatherings. Picnics and grilling will be bigger than ever this holiday.

While our get togethers will be a bit different this year, here are a few suggestions to stay safe while still having fun:

1. If inviting friends you haven’t been isolating with and will be in close contact, make sure everyone wears a mask unless eating or drinking.

2. Make it a pot luck. Have everyone bring their own food and plastic recyclable utensils and cups. No shared bowls of food or snacks for now.

3. Once burgers and hot dogs are grilled, place them right on each guest’s plate, not on a common platter.

Now that we’ve made things safer let’s talk about how to make the
party more festive.

A tin of herbs is a great gift for the host. Adding some flat wire in a woven pattern mimics a wicker basket. Don’t plant directly in the tin and this way everyone can take a plant home at the end of the day. Add some favorite sauces and flavorings to complete the basket.

Red, white and blue will always be a favorite color scheme for a Fourth of July party. Using red vases with a mix of flowers will brighten up any outdoor table setting.

White, red and white flowers are in abundance, but blue can be a little more difficult to source. Use blue Delphinium for height and blue Statice for an accent.

Both of these are in season most of the year.

Because we know it’s all about the fun of fireworks but want to stay safe, you can make your own “sparklers” using the tips in my video. These add a great sparkle to designs and plants with very little cost and labor.

I wish you all a fun, safe and flower filled holiday.
